TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

As a teacher, I wish to teach my students the skills they need to have fun with music and to integrate it into their lives. I hope to fuel their passion and excitement for music with my own. My relationship with students should be a two-way street. I want them to have a say on the things that go on in our lessons. It is important for me to know what specific musical interests they have, so I can integrate those into the lessons and help them expand their knowledge on those subjects.

I will always be available via email, text, and call to answer any questions. Students can contact me at any time if help is needed. I do not want the students to feel frustrated or confused and feel they have to wait for the next lesson to ask their question.

LESSON LAYOUT

Each lesson will surround the student’s current lesson book. Students will eventually graduate from the lesson books, and the contents of the lesson will be more in their control. After each lesson, the student will be given a practice sheet which will lay out the concepts that were discussed and practiced in the lesson. The student should refer to this sheet during their at-home practice time. There will also be a section at the bottom of the sheet for them to record their at-home practices.

WHAT I ASK OF…

The Parents:

Supporting your child as they begin learning is very important. Help them schedule times to practice and praise them for their musical accomplishments! We want them to have fun playing and for them to have the freedom to explore.

The Students:

Practice is crucial, especially in the early stages of learning to play. They should set aside time to practice and prepare for the next lesson. But most importantly, they should have fun!

DUES AND PAYMENT

Payments will be monthly and dues will be subtracted for any lessons within that month that were canceled.

Rates:

$35 for each 30 minute lesson

$48 for each 45 minute lesson

$65 for each 1 hour lesson

There is also a $20 registration fee due at enrollment of your student and will then become an annual fee on your renewal date. This will be used to help pay for studio costs and expenses.

Payments are due before the first of the month. (You may submit payments at each individual lesson, or a combined payment at the end of each month.) For example, payment for the month of February would be due by January 31. If any lessons in February end up being canceled, that amount will be deducted at the next payment.

lesson BOOK DEPOSIT

At time of registration, students are required to make a $30 book deposit to cover costs of your students piano books. A record of these book expenses will be kept and sent to the parent when the $30 deposit is depleted. When this time comes, another $30 should be deposited. If a student decides to terminate lessons, the money left in that deposit will be refunded to the parents.

ABSENCES AND MAKE-UP POLICY

If a situation arises and a student cannot attend a lesson, here are the options;

  1. The lesson can be rescheduled for another time of the week. To do this, I must know 24 hours in advance that you wish to reschedule the lesson.

  2. If rescheduling is not an option, the lesson can be canceled and payment for that lesson will be deducted in the next month's payment. Again, to do this, I must know 24 hours in advance the you wish to cancel the lesson.

If a situation arises and I miss a lesson, I will make up the lesson at your earliest convenience, or a credit will be issued.
